Established in 2024, FaseOut is an independent media engineering and archival business based in London.
Our long-term objective is to develop and research solutions that enhance the preservation of audiovisual materials, alongside maintaining an archive of film and video elements.
FaseOut maintains its own archive of film and video materials spanning the 1900s to the early 2000s — including fragments of partially lost works, preserved for research and controlled access/licensing.
Some of the formats we archive include —
Much of our research and development focuses on building custom hardware and software to support our preservation objectives.
A core component of this work is direct signal extraction from analog videotape using custom-modified VTRs. This bypasses the conventional playback chain, enabling higher-fidelity software decoding.
Together with signal processing and high-fidelity capture, these systems are intended to support archive-grade restoration workflows.
